The Treaties of Hopewell, marked a new era of relations between the United States and Native American tribes. Andrew Pickens negotiated the Cherokee portion of the treaty (Treaty Oak) with Great Chief Corn Tassel. Nancy Ward (Nanye-hi), a beloved Cherokee woman, also attended the discussions. The Treaty Oak was signed on November 28, 1785. The Commemoration of the 230th Anniversary of the Hopewell Treaties was sponsored by the Andrew Pickens Chapter, NSDAR.
